Creative Scraps!

I am still on a mission to make use of my larger scraps rather than banish them to a lonely bin. I like to have some basic card bases cut, scored, folded and ready to go. This card begins with a white A2 side fold base (5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inches scored at 4-1/4 and then folded in half, to create a top fold A2 begin with a 4-1/4 x 11 inch piece then score at 5-1/2 and fold). 

The printed paper used here has been most likely discontinued for some time. That being said I encourage you to use what YOU have and to look through your scraps and grab a piece of printed paper that has a repetitive pattern and use my design somewhat like a card sketch. Layer a 3-3/4 x 5 inch panel to the card front. Now choose a colour from your printed paper and cut a 3 x1 inch piece from a solid colour card stock. Layer horizontally across card front. Next layer a 3-3/4 x 1 inch piece of the printed card stock to a slightly larger piece of card stock that is the same colour as your card front. Stamp and die-cut a sentiment and adhere to the card front on top of the vertical panel. I love the stitched framelits from Stampin' Up for greetings and sentiments. To finish, either die-cut some small flowers or use pre-made flowers. Adhere three flowers to the solid colour panel and one next to the sentiment. Add a few die-cut or punched leaves and adhesive rhinestones and this one is good to go!

Happy Birthday Card!

Hi there, thought you might like to see something else besides Valentine Cards (although I do truly enjoy making Valentine greetings). This card is a delicate birthday card which incorporates the spirelli thread wrapping technique on a die-cut pinked circle. I love this thread from Wonderfil! The delicate little flower button was accented with a little rhinestone that was colored with a Bic Mark It pen to get the perfect shade. This paper has a clear embossed effect on it which if you want to re-create that type of look, just simply take a swirl stamp or stencil, some embossing or watermark ink and then heat emboss using clear embossing powder. The flourish used on this card is a Sizzix die and would also work great to create a stencil for the heat embossing technique. The greeting on this card is a delicate peel off sticker. For a larger view just click on the photo. Now, I challenge you to take this design and turn it into a wonderful Valentine's Day card - this card is perfect for many occasions! Layered Birthday Card!

This card was created to celebrate my daughter's birthday and I thought I would share it with you -- she hasn't received it yet so hopefully she won't see it until she gets it. I want her to have a fabulous birthday! The inspiration came actually a couple of days ago when I was attending the Scrapbook Carnival that Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine hosts. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces! There was tons of inspiration and excitement at this event! I was inspired by Emma Lou from Heartfelt Creations and the beautiful flowers that can be created with their stamps and coordinating die-templates. This card makes use of the Striped Sun Kissed Fleur stamp. The printed paper is Simple Stories, 24/SEVEN Bingo Cards/Stripe. I allowed myself to play a little bit in the making of this, bringing in a punched border strip, glitter on the word fabulous, brad and center star. A few pen strokes were added to the punched hearts, leaf and around the bingo card. I hope you like it and that you have a FABULOUS day, week, month, year, etc.

Happy Birthday Card!

Do you ever find yourself in need of a card but your inspiration is on a bit of a break? What do you do? My suggestion is to look at past creations and switch them up a bit. Even if it is a different theme than what you are in need of, it is possible to be inspired by the design. Another option is to use a card that may have been designed initially for a different occasion but will also work wonderfully with just a simple addition. This card is a perfect example, it was originally created with Valentine's in mind however with the addition of the Happy Birthday sentiment it conveys not only my love for the individual but also my wishes for a Happy Birthday. I might just use this one for my wonderful hubby's birthday! The theme on this card was originally based around circles and love, with the circles on the printed paper, the pressure embossed circles and even the circles on the XO stamped image - it was kind of fun to choose a theme like that and then run with it. See, themes can even be simple shapes. Next time you are stuck for an idea or inspiration I hope you give it a try!

Card Makeover!

One of the things that I would like to improve this year, is to provide you with more inspiration and on a consistent basis. It looks like so far I am on track. Wish me luck!

At this time of year many of us are feeling somewhat creatively drained when it comes to our cardmaking. Rather than struggle with this, look to some of your creations from Christmas and the holidays. The accordion rosette on this card has been created using a Tim Holtz die and ivory pearl cardstock. The heart embellishment was simply cut from the printed paper and adhered to a die-cut SpellbindersTM scallop heart shape. Then pretty pink metallic thread, from Wonderfil thread, was wrapped in the valleys of the scallops. To finish the card, a stamped image using Chalk ink was created. Then a final accent using fancy edgers from Fiskars (have not used these in a long while, usually head to my border punches, but think I will pull out my fancy edgers again!)
This is a simple yet effective card and one that with a different sentiment could easily work for a wedding, anniversary, birthday, Valentine's or a baby card. Hope this technique of recycling ideas helps to rev up your creativity again! Start with clean and simple and then if you are ready to kick it up another notch -- go for it!

Happy Birthday Card

With the official first day of Spring right around the corner (March 20th) I thought this birthday card full of flowers would be great to share with you today. Unfortunately, I do not remember what company the paper is from - it is absolutely beautiful and actually inspired the card itself. A notched piece of turquoise paper is placed vertically and then a tag shape was cut from the printed paper and layered horizontally followed by all of the beautiful flowers layered on top. Some of the flowers were cut directly from the printed paper and the white flowers were stamped and thermal embossed with white on vellum/parchment (parchment is heavier than vellum) and then cut and layered.  I love to work with parchment paper due to the fact that it is heavier. It is great for pressure or thermal embossing techniques. White thermal embossing on the white parchment is quite striking, it almost gives a Pergamano® effect, a craft technique that is quite beautiful. The beautiful white flower is a stamp from Outlines. Flowers and a card all in one - these flowers do not require watering and will not wilt. The delicate greeting is from Stampin Up. I hope this inspires you to create something today, especially since the month of March is national crafting month.

Happy Birthday Card

Happy Birthday to all of you born on 8/8 and those born on 8/8/88 like my youngest daughter for whom this card was created. Yes, back to handmade flowers, (cannot get enough of them) however using a different die. This time I used the pinked circles die from Spellbinder's, it worked beautifully, creating a carnation style flower. The leaves are from ProvoCraft - love them, I think this one had three different dies in the set. The border was created with a Fiskars border punch.
